On my quest to visit every province in the Netherlands, I ended up visiting Middelburg, the Netherlands. This picturesque capital of Zeeland is perfect for anyone who is a history geek and is looking for a side of culture.

In general, I would not recommend a day trip to Middelburg from Holland, but rather at minimum, an overnight stay in Middelburg or a weekend in Middelburg as the train journey can be fairly long (as we learned the hard way). It is definitely worth a visit though…

Sometimes, I get a wild hair–and when I read about the Zeeland mussels, oysters, and the Oosterschelde lobster, I knew that I had to visit this Dutch province just for the seafood. After researching where to try the best seafood in Zeeland, I ended up deciding to visit Yerseke.

Visiting Sint Anna ter Muiden, the smallest town in the Netherlands

When I read about Sint Anna ter Muiden and a couple sources mentioned that it was one of the most beautiful towns in the Netherlands, I was very curious. This small town is the most western point of the Netherlands and it only has 50 people (as of 2006). This makes Sint Anna ter Muiden the smallest town in the Netherlands and an absolutely stunning one, only 300 meters from the Belgian border. It’s right next to Sluis, one of the cities of Zeeland, so it’s easy to visit for an hour or two if you’re in the area. I’ll be discussing the history of this fascinating and beautiful off the beaten path town in the Netherlands….
