The meaning of the word ‘yoga’ is ‘to connect’, to connect to yourself completely. If you are looking to re-connect to your body and mind, then the Hague has a plethora of yoga studios on offer. To help you choose your place of practice in the Hague, I have taken a range of classes and reviewed a few of my

Many of the yoga studios in the Hague are located around Laan van Meerdervoort and within the Zeeheldenkwartier, however Yogashala located in Statenkwartier is also worth mentioning.

Delight Yoga
Delight by name and Delight by nature. Delight Yoga was established in a space facing the Peace Palace in 2015. This studio is tranquil, modern and welcoming from the moment you open the door.
It boasts 3 airy studios and a space to relax in with a cup of complimentary tea or citrus water. You are also invited to enjoy your breakfast or stay for a coffee after class. Change rooms and showers are available and classes are offered from 6:30 am until 22:00 so you can easily manage a class before or after work.Â
All classes are taught in English and the staff and instructors are helpful and considerate of your body, yoga level and goals. Delight offers Yoga basics classes specifically for beginners as well as opportunities for self-practice. Information regarding each yoga class type and recommended yoga level is accessible on the website. Private lessons are also offered.
Bookings in studio or online are available and a costing overview is provided below. Mats are available for your use with no hire fee, and you are welcome to practice with your own mat. A small selection of yoga clothing, mats and accessories is available to purchase in studio.
Classes offered: Yoga Basics, Hatha, Astanga, Yin / Yin Yang, Restorative, Vinyasa, Yoga Nidra. Offerings include Meditation, healings, massages, workshops and retreats, mindfulness, ayurvedic consultations, and yoga teacher training.
If you wish to try out this studio, they have a deal where they offer two classes for 17 euros (February 2019) although single classes cost around 17 euros each. You can save by getting a pack of 10 or 20 classes to bring down the cost or membership for unlimited classes. You can pay less if you intend to go off-peak during business hours. Mats are free although towels are not available.
Location in the Hague: Scheveningseweg 14,2517 KT Den Haag. (They also have a branch in Amsterdam). The studio is open daily seven days a week with opening times varying per day.
Bikram Yoga Den Haag
Location: Prins Hendrikplein 2, 2518 JA Den Haag. The studio is also open seven days a week.
Bikram Yoga the Hague welcomes students of all levels and is located on Prince Hendrikplein, in the beautiful Zeeheldenkwartier. Upon entering the Bikram Yoga studio, leave your shoes and stresses at the door. Write your name in the book and scan your membership card.
Booking online or purchasing classes is available in studio. Bikram Yoga the Hague is independently owned and prides itself in being a ‘no-nonsense, friendly yoga school without incense, chanting or Buddhas’. While they don’t have incense or chanting, the focus is still strongly on increasing your mental and physical strength.Â
Bikram yoga is for all levels. Each class consists of a series of 26 postures and 2 breathing exercises. The Bikram yoga series builds on each posture as the class progresses. Important to note if you are new to Bikram, is that classes are 90 minutes in length and practiced at 40 degrees Celsius.
Be sure to pack a towel and plenty of water. Private lessons are also available. Classes are taught in English or a mixture of Dutch and English for all to understand. Change rooms, showers,
Classes offered: Bikram (40 degrees Celsius), Big Yogi little Yogis (parent and child class non-heated). They also offer retreats. A small selection of yoga accessories, clothing and mats are available in the studio. As is coconut water to quench your thirst after your sweaty practice.
You can purchase an introductory week with unlimited classes for twenty euros although a single class will cost 18 euros. You can bring down the cost to 11-14 euros per class with class packages or a membership. A tip: When you purchase a lesson card before your current card has expired, you have access to cheaper prices!
Buddha Bowls is a couple of doors down for a healthy meal after your Bikram practice. Each Thursday, there is a farmer’s market on the nearby square to buy fresh fruit and veggies.
Balanz~s
Balance is achieved by the team at the Balanz~s studios with the variety of yoga styles offered, the casual and comfortable lounge areas, and the wellness and beauty services available. One day you can relax during a gentle (Hatha) yoga class and the next sweat it out during an intensive (hot yoga) yoga class. Providing your body every practice it could need. The studios are light and airy with beautiful bamboo floors and natural lighting.
When you enter, and leave your shoes by the door, you will be greeted by Aranka the resident Balanz~s dog (Laan van Meerdervoort studio). Aranka has really mastered the art of meditation and always welcomes a pat. To truly balance your yoga experience you are welcome to read the magazines available or make use of the free Wi-fi while you sip your coconut water in the lounge before or after class.Â
It isn’t necessary to reserve a place in advance for a lesson, even for your first, just drop by and the friendly teachers will make you feel welcome. Lesson cards or subscriptions grant you access to classes across all Balanz~s locations so you can give everything a try.
Classes are taught in English, or a mixture of English and Dutch to ensure all participants understand the class. A great way to learn a bit more Dutch! Yoga classes are available for all levels and body types, and the knowledgeable and approachable instructors are able to provide opportunities just right for you. They have a fantastic introduction offer: you get unlimited yoga for free for a week! Single yoga classes cost 15 euros and you can save by buying class packages (e.g. 20 classes for 210€ over a year; 10.50€ per class). You can also get unlimited classes for 85 per month with the cost going down as you commit to more months. You can also save by buying an off-peak membership valid at the various Balanz~s yoga studios around the Hague.
