About Eindhoven
Eindhoven is a city in the Netherlands about 1.5 hours south of Amsterdam by train/car. It’s located in Brabant, a province in the Netherlands famous for their festive Carnival celebrations. It’s also close to Den Bosch, one of my favorite Dutch cities, known for its stunning canals that run underneath the city and its medieval city center.
Eindhoven is not a typical Dutch city in many ways as it was mostly destroyed during World War II due to its prominent role in manufacturing and electronics (Philips is based here). The city has rebuilt itself with cutting-edge design, cool restaurants, and great infrastructure. You can click for what to do in Eindhoven here.
Enough about Eindhoven. If you found a cheap flight to Eindhoven, you will want to weigh the amount of time that it takes to get to Eindhoven with the price and the cost of getting to/from the airport. If you’re planning on heading to Limburg, Brabant, or Utrecht, I actually would recommend Eindhoven. Otherwise, Schiphol is the way to go.
Eindhoven Airport is amazing for budget flights. You’ll find flights with WizzAir, Transavia, Easyjet, and RyanAir from Eindhoven, which might be worth your while… However, I generally fly from Schiphol as it only costs 5.50 euros (with ticket cost) and twenty minutes to travel between Amsterdam and Schiphol Airport. It’s up to you to decide!
How to get from Amsterdam to Eindhoven Centraal independently
I usually give myself two hours to get to/from the airport from the Hague or Amsterdam to account for any issues with the trains. You don’t want to miss your flight due to planned construction and/or a train breakdown! If you’re a little early, there’s a small coffee shop in the terminal.
The train from Amsterdam Centraal to Eindhoven Centraal goes about every half hour and takes around 1 hour and 15 minutes. You’ll want to look for the train has only three stops and no transfers. This train costs € 20,50 each way excluding the ticket fee [1 euro] if you don’t have an OVChipkaart as of 2019. (It’s not worth getting a round-trip ticket if you’re flying round-trip from Eindhoven.)
You’ll need to “tap” your ticket against the gate to get inside the stations. Remember to tap out as well. You can check the NS website (the Dutch train provider) for more information about the schedule. Similarly, you can buy tickets through the NS app.
No matter what train station you’ll be coming from, you’ll need to take the bus from the station to the airport. From Eindhoven Centraal, you’ll need to take the Hermes bus [Bus 400/401] to Eindhoven Airport.

How to get from Eindhoven Airport to Amsteram independently
If you’re traveling from Eindhoven Airport to Amsterdam, you’ll find the Eindhoven airport is quite small and easy to navigate. As soon as you grab your bags, exit the terminal and head outside.
Bus 400/401 sits just outside the terminal with the direction “Eindhoven Centraal.” The bus journey costs less than 5 euros each way if you’re paying with cash. It’s less than 2.50 euros with an OVchipkaart. [2019] The bus journey is about twenty-five minutes and you can find the schedule using Google Maps. There is Wi-Fi on the bus!
Once you get to Eindhoven Centraal, you’ll want to buy your ticket at the machines using your card. (Look for the British flag to switch the machine into English). How to get from Eindhoven Airport to Amsterdam by bus
If you’re not keen on dealing with the trains, which generally run well, you can also pay for a private bus with Air Express Bus. This bus runs from Eindhoven Centraal to Amsterdam (and vice versa). It’s about 22.50 each way with a stop in Utrecht [2019]. The bus goes every couple hours (6-8 buses per day).
My husband took this bus to/from Eindhoven Airport by booking ahead (although it’s not necessary). As a non-planner, he liked that he could just sit on the bus and not worry about any details. That said, I’d avoid the bus if you’ll be traveling during rush hour in the morning or evening as you’re likely to hit traffic.
